Abstract

1,131,281. Fuel-injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Dec. 20, 1965 [Jan. 7, 1965], No.27905/64. Heading F1A. A fuel-injection pump comprises a rotary distributer 11 with pistons 19 reciprocated by rollers 20 engaging a cam track 21, the fuel delivered by pistons 19 acting on a piston 23 to discharge fuel from a working chamber 22 to the engine cylinders via delivery passage 25 sequentially communicating with delivery ports 26. Working chamber 22 is supplied by a metering piston 30 in a cylinder 29 to which fuel is fed beneath piston 30 by a feed pump 13 via an adjustable throttle 43, which regulates the supply to piston 30 and to pistons 19 such that, as the supply to piston 30 is decreased the supply to pistons 19 is increased, thereby controlling the injection timing in relation to engine load. Throttle 43 is moved upwardly against a spring 44 by the feed pump pressure, and therefore acts to govern the speed of the engine for a given spring setting. The setting of throttle spring 44 is adjusted manually through lever 45. The maximum injection delivery is adjustable by set screw 31. The injection timing may be made dependent on engine speed by incorporating a pressure responsive throttle valve in a passage between the feed pump delivery line and pistons 19, Fig. 6 (not shown).
