Abstract

931,197. Fuel injection pumps. P. E. BESSIERE. Jan. 2, 1961 [Jan. 8, 1960], No. 99/61. Class 102(1). A self-regulating rotary distributer pump, fed preferably by a gear pump 17, incorporates a shuttle 19, in the fixed part 1 of the pump, which is driven on its outward stroke by liquid delivered by auxiliary pistons 5a through a passage, Fig. 2 (not shown), opening an outlet conduit 28 for the liquid and also a discharge conduit 18 for the main pump delivery conduit 9, causing check valve 14 in the relevant one of the outlets 13 to fuel injectors to close. The return stroke of the shuttle is caused by a spring 29 and is resisted, preferably adjustably, by a throttle in an outlet passage, Fig. 3 (not shown), such that when the speed of the pump is above a given value the strokes of the shuttle are shortened and the fuel delivery is reduced. An annular cam 2 operating the pistons 5a may be adjustable angularly to vary the timing of injection. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the main pistons are provided with return springs, are mounted in the fixed part of the pump and are driven by a cam mounted on the driving shaft. Specifications 861,754 and 872,053 are referred to.
