Abstract

1,159,091. Fuel injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Jan.3, 1967 [Jan. 31, 1966], No. 4096/66. Heading F1A. The quantity of fuel supplied to the pumping chamber 13 of an injection pump is metered by a shuttle 22 and the shuttle stroke is determined by a shaped surface on a part 41 adjustably mounted in a stop 36 slidable in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the shuttle cylinder 21. The part 41 is adjustable substantially parallel to the shuttle cylinder axis by a screw 42. The shuttle 21 is movable towards the part 41 by fuel supplied by a distributer driven feed pump 23 via a governor controlled throttle 27. The shuttle 22 is moved to displace fuel from its cylinder 21 by the output pressure of the feed pump applied to its outer end through passage 34. The stop 36 is subject to the feed pump outlet pressure through passage 39. The shaped surface on the part 41 may be shaped to provide excess fuel for engine starting.
