Abstract

868,625. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. Dec. 18, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1958], No. 41765/58. Class 102(1). In a fuel injection pump comprising a rotary head 15 having at least one transverse piston 17 actuated by an eccentric 19, a rotary distributer 20 rotating with the head and, a pasage 22 communicating at one end with the cylinder bore 16 and at the other with a passage 23 which distributes fuel to the injection outlets 24, a shuttle 35 is disposed intermediate the ends of the bore 22 between stops 36. Fuel fed by a pump 12 passes to one side of the shuttle by a chamber 25, adjustable throttle 29, and passages 27 and 28 with which ports 30 communicate during rotation ; fuel is also fed to the other side of the shuttle from chamber 25 by a passage 31 with which ports 32 communicate during rotation. Fuel from the port 30 forces the shuttle to the left until the port is closed stopping further movement; the ports 32 open and fuel forces out the pistons 17 ; the ports 32 close and inward movement of the pistons 17 forces the shuttle to the right discharging fuel to one of the outlets 24 until the shuttle 35 opens spill ports 33. Injection commences at the same point on each discharge stroke. In a modification the shuttle is disposed in a transverse bore in the distribution.
