Abstract
1,008,737. Fuel injection pumps. C. A. V. Ltd. July 10, 1962 [May 23, 1961], No. 18534/61. Heading F1A. A shuttle 32 is movable in a longitudinal bore 29 of a rotary distributer 28 having a radial cylinder pump head 23, between stops 33, 34 such that liquid discharged by the radial pump causes the shuttle to discharge liquid to the distributer outlet 30 until the shuttle clears a by-pass 39. Liquid is fed to the radial pump and outlet side of the shuttle by pistons 46, 47 respectively which are connected by grooves (not shown) in one position of the distributer to a feed pump 21; subsequently the feed pump is connected to the upper end of the pistons 46, 47 which discharge liquid into the bore 29 through passages 36, 35. The quantity of liquid discharged by the piston 46 controls the outward movement of the radial pump pistons and hence the time of injection and the quantity of liquid discharged by the piston 47 is the quantity to be discharged to the injectors. The strokes of the pistons 46, 47 and hence the timing and fuel quantity is regulated by a rotary face cam 53; in addition the stroke of the piston 46 (and timing) is further controlled by a wedge 55 connected to a piston 56 subjected to the speed variable outlet of the feed pump 21.
