Abstract

565,043. Fuel injection &c. pumps. SWAIN, F. E., and STUBINGS, -A. J. May' 4, 1943, No. 7014. [Class 102 (i)] A fuel injection or other hydraulic pump comprises a rotor 31 with one or more radial cylinders 33 containing plungers 34, the outer ends of whichslidably engage a tiltable stationary ring 32, the axes of the cylinders, the rotor, and the ring all intersecting at a common point, so that, for each revolution of the rotor, each plunger executes two complete reciprocations whilst its outer end moves from side to side of the ring. In the form shown, a ball 58 and a shoe 35 are disposed between each plunger 33 and the ring 32, and the latter is tiltable about balls 53 against the action of a relatively wide flat spring 52 by means of a 90 degrees cam 48 which engages a ball 49 carried by an arm 50 with an actuating arm 51. There may be one or more delivery passages 46 with adjustable spring-loaded relief valves. In a modification, the ring 32 is tilted automatically according to the delivery pressure. In other modifications, the sleeve 41 is rotatable or movable axially to provide a spill valve arrangement.
