Abstract
425,331. Fuel - - injection pumps. WITKOWSKI, S., 32, Chemin de Grange- Canal, Geneva, Switzerland. Dec. 2, 1933, No. 33913. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1932. [Class 102 (i)] In a multi-cylinder fuel pump operated by a fuel cam 37, the cam is connected to the driving shaft through a slip coupling comprising two parts 8, 38, one of which has projections 38b engaging inclined faces 8b on the other, whereby axial movement of the part 8 rotates the part 38 and cam 37 thereby varying the time of fuel injection. The coupling parts are held in engagement by a spring 14. Axial movement of the part 8 is effected by rotating a ring 12 provided with a projection 3b engaging an inclined slot 9<b> in a ring 9 supporting the member 8. The stroke of the pump may be varied by axial movement of the cam 37 which is effected by rotating a ring 40 having a pin 3<a> engaging an inclined slot in the cam support. The pump units may be of the plunger or, as shown, of the flexible chamber type. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a cam-operated plunger pump in which the cylinders each have a byepass 22b and are formed in a block 22 which may be moved axially against a spring 27 by rotating a cam 26, thereby varying the quantity of fuel delivered. The time of injection is varied by moving the coupling member 8 axially, thereby rotating the cam 11. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
