Abstract

340,664. Fuel pumps for internalcombustion engines. JUNKERS, H., 21, Kaiserplatz, Dessau, Anhalt, Germany. Oct. 21, 1929, No. 31951. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1928. [Class 102 (i).] Cam-actuated pumps; disconnecting actuating mechanism.-Each cylinder of a Diesel engine is supplied with fuel by at least two pumps or groups of pumps 2, 3, each feeding a separate nozzle 6, 7, and timed to commence injection at different points in the rotation of the crank. One of the pumps or groups of pumps is connected to hand or automatic control rod mechanism so that it comes into operation only when the normal load on the engine is exceeded. The mechanism may comprise levers 14, 15 adapted to engage flanges 12, 13 on the plungers to hold them out of contact with the actuating cams 4, 5, the levers being connected to a control 22 by linkage 16, 17, 18 and 19, 20, 21, so that when one pump is operating the other is held out of action.
