Abstract

903,401. Fuel injection pumps. BORGWARNER CORPORATION. Dec. 8, 1958 [Dec. 12, 1957], No. 39517/58. Class 102(1). A hollow piston 32 is reciprocated and rotated in a barrel 31 and has inlet ports 37 and ar outlet port 39 communi eating sequentially with an inlet port 38 and a plurality of outlet ports 40 respectively. A spill port 43 is controlled by the head of the piston and the amount of spill is controlled by moving the cylinder housing axially, the housing being forced to the left by a spring 33 against a screwed ring 23. In a modification the outlet from the pump passes first through a fuel retracting delivery valve and then to a peripheral groove in the plunger, which groove communicates with a distributing slot on the plunger periphery which communicates sequentially with the outlet ports 30. An annular groove 41 communicates through a port with the fuel supply for lubricating the plunger.
