689,599. Fuel-injection pumps. DAIMLERBENZ AKT.-GES. Oct. 31. 1950 [Oct. 31, 1949], No. 26539/50. Class 102 (i). In a fuel-injection pump, a piston 12 is actuated by a cam and controls a suction port 20. The delivery port 22 and by-pass port 23 are controlled by a piston 14 loaded by a spring 15 and are opened at the same time and the amount of fuel injected is adjusted by controlling the amount permitted to leak through the by-pass. The bypass port 23 is connected to a by-pass port 25 that is controlled by a conical extension 30 on a piston 29 which also controls a port 38 leading to the fuel suction. The fuel pressure in space 32 acts on the piston 29 in opposition to an adjustable spring 27. In addition a similar by-pass control may be arranged in parallel but actuated manually. In a multi-cylinder pump, the cylinders may have a common by-pass passage leading to the control valve or valves. In the case where a large number of cylinders are provided, common passages are provided to a series of cylinders in which not more than one cylinder is connected to the by-pass at one time.
