Abstract
975,233. Regulating; engine stop gear. SIMMS MOTOR UNITS Ltd., T. PATERSON, and Z. S. MIRACKI. Feb. 16, 1961 [Feb. 23, 1960], No. 6321/60. Headings F1B and F1K. [Also in Division G3] Reverse starting of a Diesel &c. engine is prevented by a non-return valve 44 and pressure sensitive element 48 between the fuel tank and an engine-driven gear pump supplying the injection pump. Should the engine rotate backwards fuel is delivered from the inlet 32 of the gear pump and closes the non-return valve 44 whereupon the element 48 is depressed to move an engine stop control 52 having a mechanical connection with the injection pump rack. Depression of the element 48 opens a relief passage 51. A hand priming pump 53 is connected across the gear pump. The rack is normally actuated by a centrifugal governor, e.g. as described in Specification 968,521, and its movement in the delivery increasing direction is limited by a stop constituted by a shaped plunger positioned by the pressure generated by the gear pump.
