Abstract

870,383. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. BESSIERE, P. E. June 3, 1958 [June 12, 1957], No. 17733/58. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] The stroke of the piston 6 of a fuel-injection pump (see Group XXVIII) is varied in accordance with the speed of the engine. A gear pump 22 driven from the engine supplies fluid to a chamber 21, the flow from which is controlled by a throttle 29 formed by a slidable piston member 28. The piston member 28 is loaded by a spring 30 towards a stop 33 and the pressure in the chamber 21 also acts through passage 36 on the end of the member 28 tending to reduce the throttle passage. The chamber 21 houses a piston 23 which is connected to a rack 25 such that movement of the piston causes adjustment of a rod 18 to vary the stroke of the pump piston 6. In operation, as the speed of the engine increases, so will the pressure in the chamber 21 which acts to reduce the throttle passage 29 and thus cause a further increase in the chamber pressure with a consequential adjustment of the position of the piston 23. In an extreme position the piston 23 opens a by-pass port 38 which corresponds to no delivery of the pump. The end of the rack 25 may be connected to a dash-pot device. The groove 29 may be replaced by conjugate sections such as triangles, or semicircles in the member and conduit.
