Abstract

1278688 Fuel injection pumps BENDIX CORP 26 Sept 1969 [27 Sept 1968] 47486/69 Heading F1A In a fuel injection pump the pistons are angularly adjusted by a control rod 20 whose position is determined by a centrifugal governor 24 and a variable throttle spring 26. A sleeve 32 on the governor acts in opposition to the spring 26 on a lever 39 pivoted at 40, one arm 41 of the lever being connected to links 50 and 54 which are connected to a slide 45 mounted, by means of a slot 46 and sleeve 47 on rod 20 and a rod 49 fixed to the housing, for reciprocation parallel to rod 20. A bracket 72 on slide 45 is slidably mounted at the rear of rod 20 and a spring 77 on the rod between the bracket and a stop 69 on the rod urges stop 69 against slide 45. Counter clockwise rotation of arm 41 moves slide 45 and rod 20 in a fuel increasing direction. Under normal running conditions a wing 59 on link 54 abuts a maximum fuel stop lever 62 which also abuts a yieldable stop 65, this prevents movement of the rod until the spring 26 is further tensioned. Levers 70 and 71 may act against stop 69 to reduce the fuel supply independently of slide 45; lever 70 is a fuel shut off lever which may be used to thrust the control rod 20 against the action of spring 77 to the fuel shut-off position and lever 71 is actuated by the engine air intake pressure. Levers 62 and 71 are mounted on a rod 82 connected to the armature 96 of a solenoid 95; energizing the solenoid moves the levers out of the path of wing 59 and stop 69 for starting purposes and a spring 97 returns the rod 82 after de-energizing the solenoid after starting the engine.
