939,697. Reciprocating pumps. CESKOSLOVENSKE ZAVODY NAFTOVYCH MOTORU PRAHA, NARODNI PODNIK. March 7, 1961 [March 11, 1960], No. 8354/61. Class 102(1). A Diesel engine injection pump has a lowpressure spill port 9 in the wall of the cylinder 2 and a groove 14 in the piston 3 is arranged to communicate with the port 9 during a part of the piston stroke. The piston 3 had a recess 3<SP>11</SP> which, when the piston is at its lowest position, partially opens the port 9 to the pressure chamber 2<SP>1</SP>. This permits vapour entrained in the fuel to escape through the port. The groove 14 is filled with fuel which has by-passed the land 16 and this fuel is discharged into the port 9 during the delivery stroke. The fuel is then returned to the reservoir.
