Abstract

1496147 Reciprocating pumps J EBERSPACHER 9 Dec 1974 53143/74 Heading F1A A pump, especially for the injection of fuel to combustion chambers, comprises a cylinder 2 divided by a reciprocable piston 1 into a suction space 6 and a delivery space 5, the spaces being inter-connected by a constricted passage 7 whereby during contraction of the space 6 fluid previously admitted thereto through a non-return suction valve 3 is transferred to the space 5 through the passage 7. Delivery of fluid past a non-return valve 4 occurs when the space 6 is expanding since the constricted passage 7 inhibits return flow to the space 6. The piston may be reciprocated by an electro-magnet, Fig. 3 (not shown) or a piston rod passing through the space 5. If the piston is of sufficient dimensions, delivery also occurs during contraction of the space 6. The passage 7 may be in the piston or be constituted by the clearance between the piston 1 and its cylinder 2.
