Abstract

1389986 Fuel injection pumps KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 13 Aug 1973 [16 Aug 1972] 38256/73 Heading F1A In order to prevent detonation during low power operation of an engine, the delivery of a fuel injection pump is in two, spaced, periods due to the provision of two pressure relieving slots 12,6 respectively provided in the cylinder wall and piston 2 of the pump and respectively communicating with a suction and spill port 10 and an inclined groove 7 whose upper edge 8 co-operates with port 10 to determine pump delivery, fuel injection being interrupted as the slot 6 passes over the slot 12 during the delivery stroke of the piston 2. The groove 7 communicates with the upper face 3 of the piston via an axial surface groove 4 (Fig.1) or an axial bore in the piston Fig.2 (not shown) and the upper face 3 maybe inclined for controlling the time when injection commences.
