Abstract

368,366. Fuel-injection pumps. SIMMS, F. R., BRYAN, W., and SIMMS. MOTOR UNITS, Ltd., Percy Buildings,: Gresse Street, London: Nov. 29, 1930, No. 36080. [Class 102 (i).] In a fuel-injection pump the cylinder 1 reciprocates on a fixed plunger 6 and within a sleeve valve 15, Figs. 1 and 9, having an inlet port 17 and a spill port 18 co-operating with ports 19, 20 in the cylinder. The port 18 may be of triangular form, or an inclined slot, Fig. 8, the point of'release being varied by rotation of the valve by a rack engaging a pinion 21, or otherwise. Rotation of the cylinder may be 'prevented by flats engaged by flanges on a lever 11 interposed between the operating cam and the cylinder. The lever may have an adjustable fulcrum. The ports may be in diametrically opposite pairs to balance reaction. The inlet ports and spill ports may communicate with a common chamber 14, or with separate chambers 14b, 14a, Fig. 9. The bore of the cylinder may be elongated to provide a cushioning space 27 below the plunger.
