Abstract

753,146. Fuel-injection pumps. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 16, 1954 [Feb. 20, 1953], No. 4508/54. Class 102(1). In a fuel-injection pump, the piston 9 is reciprocated by a cam 13 and rotated by gearing 31, 33 and 37 from the camshaft 11 and a groove 61 in the piston co-operates with outlet passages 51 to distribute the fuel to the engine cylinders ; the outlet passages 51 are closed during the pump suction stroke. The pump piston has an axial passage communicating with by-pass ports 81, 82 controlled by axially adjustable sleeves 91, 92 on the piston 9 to control the beginning and end of the injection. A further port 73 in the piston co-operates with inlet ports 71, 75 in the cylinder arranged so that during the whole suction stroke of the piston 9, the pumping space 43 is in communication with the by-pass chamber 7 or the fuel supply chamber 45.
