Cylinders, combustion chambers for; cycles and systems of working.-In an engine having an auxiliary combustion space 10 of annular form in the cylinder wall, the width of the chamber space is greatest at its opening into the cylinder. During the compression stroke the chamber 10 is filled with compressed mixture, and until after ignition of the main charge. The upper edge of the chamber is located between 2.75 per cent and 10 per cent of the piston stroke below the top dead centre position of the piston head.
