Abstract
142,525. Bentall, E. E., and Bingham, G. C. Jan. 2. 1919. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In engines in which the liquid fuel is ignited by the heat of compression in a small chamber D separatea from the cylinder by orifices d<1>, the orifices are made so small that the ignition temperature is not attained in the chamber D until the piston has passed the dead-centre. The chamber has a recess G into which the combustion products are forced by the new air charge, and the volume of this recess may be varied by a piston H, in order to adjust the time of ignition. The fuel is drawn into the chamber D through the valve F during the suction stroke. The size of the orifices d' may be adjustable.
