Abstract
412,636. Oil engines. LANG, F., 41, Laimerstrasse, Munich, Germany. Jan. 5, 1933, No. 417. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii).] The capacity of an air cell of a Diesel engine is proportioned so that, at the end of the compression stroke, the cell contains substantially 20 per cent of the weight of the air during normal running. At starting, the capacity of the cell is reduced so that it accommodates 6 per cent of the weight of the air. In a modification in which the combustion chamber is formed partly in the cylinder head and partly in the cylinder bore, and the cell is of variable capacity, the part e in the cylinder bore takes from 5-15 per cent of the air charge, the air cell h at minimum capacity from 0-11 per cent and the combustion chamber f in the head from 79-90 per cent. A piston k is provided to vary the capacity of the air cell.
