Abstract
191,181. Holworthy, H. F. Oct. 12, 1921. Pistons.-The piston of an internal-combustion engine is formed both with an internal lip 2 in which oil collects and with a scraper groove 7. The oil passes from the lip 2 through perforations 5 to the exterior of the piston, preferably at a portion of reduced diameter, and oil collected by the scraper groove 7 is returned by perforations 8 to the interior of the piston. The perforations 5, 8 are preferably inclined. The scraper groove 7 is preferably just below the packing rings and the lip 2 near the extremity of the skirt. Oil-distributing grooves 9 may be formed on the skirt.
