Pistons; piston packing. - In a trunk piston for an internal - combustion engine &c., the piston head and skirt are separate and are connected so as to permit relative radial movement. The skirt a has at its upper end an internal flange, of a bore sufficient to permit the passage of a flange h, on an extension of the head e, which is retained by a split ring i. In removing the head, the ring i is compressed by means of pins inserted in holes d. Alternatively, a projection on the skirt may be retained in a bore in the head. A flexible ring g of cup-leather type acts as an oil scraper, as a guide for the head, and as a packing-ring. A single ring g may be employed in conjunction with ordinary packing-rings, or several rings g may be employed without other packing.
