Abstract
16,767. Howard, H. J., and Wessex Engineering Co. July 14. C h a n n e l s in cylinders and pistons. - A sliding ring valve for an internal - combustion engine is lubricated by a ridge of oil carried up by a piston - ring, which extends to the upper edge of the piston or beyond it. The paths of the piston and of the valve ring B may overlap. The upper piston-ring H is extended at H<1> in order to push forward a ridge of oil towards the valve B. A special sheet-metal ring, designed to prevent oil from spreading over the crown of the piston, may be used. In a modification, the oil is pushed into a groove in the cylinder wall, which groove is overlapped by the edge of the ring B. In another modification, the valve B reciprocates in a portion of the cylinder of slightly smaller diameter, and the shoulder separating the two portions collects oil and delivers it to the valve. Specifications 25,164/08 and 14,725/12 are referred to.
