Abstract
224,995. Higgs, G. N., and Specialloid, Ltd. Sept. 15, 1923. Channels in pistons. -A piston for internalcombustion engines has one or more external depressions a in the skirt each communicating by a channel b with the piston waist c. Lubricant collecting in the depressions a flows into the waist c and is forced through hoLes f to the interior of the piston by the sharp edge g of the piston and by the sharp edge of the piston ring, not shown, which is mounted in the groove h. The piston skirt edge is chamfered as at d to assist the lubricant on the cylinder walls into the depressions a. For a horizontal piston the depressions a and the holes f are in the top and bottom sides respectively.
