Abstract

196,576. Hater, H. J. April 24, 1922, [Convention date]. Pistons; balancing laterally.- A piston for an internal - combustion or other engine has a trapezoidal recess 6 adjacent each gudgeon-pin opening. The piston is formed with a bevelled surface 5 below the packing-ring grooves and oil passes to the interior of the piston through holes 8 in tha angles of the recesses. At each side of the piston a transverse slit 9 connects the upper holes 8 of the two recesses, and an oblique cut is formed from the edge of the skirt. On the side which does not take the connecting-rod thrust on the power stroke the oblique cut 14 connects with the slit 9 and passes through a band 12 in the skirt. On the side which takes the thrust the cut 11 does not connect with the cut 9 and does not pass through the band 12.
