Abstract

433,342. Oil engines. GARDNER & SONS, Ltd., L., and GARDNER, T. J., Barton Hall Engine Works, Patricroft, near Manchester. June 27, 1934, No. 18974. [Class 7 (iii)] To obtain a high turbulence in an offset cylindrical or spherical combustion chamber a formed by co-operating recesses in the piston c and in the cylinder head b depressions g in the piston are located beneath the valves e and communicate with the chamber through a tangentially arranged passage h. The depressions incline at all points towards the passage h which may have undercut walls. In the modified form shown in Fig. 6, the passage h narrows gradually towards the combustion chamber and is deepest at a midpoint of its width.
