Abstract

401,880. Oil engines. GARDNER, E., and GARDNER & SONS, Ltd., L., Barton Hall Engine Works, Patricroft, Manchester. Oct. 26, 1932, No. 29951. [Class 7 (iii).] To facilitate the starting of a compressionignition engine in which a combustion chamber d is located at one side of the cylinder head, a projection a on the piston b closes one side of the mouth c of the combustion chamber at the end of the compression stroke. The piston may be recessed at e, or the cylinder head may be recessed adjacent the mouth c. If the mouth c is of triangular cross-section with the base of the triangle at the peripheral wall of the combustion chamber around which swirling commences, the projection a on the piston is dispensed with. Specification 185,706, [Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for], is referred to.
