Abstract
544,300. Oil engines. CROSSLEY MOTORS, Ltd., CROOKE, S. E.. WORRALL, W. H., and WISRART, T. D. May 15, 1941, No. 6282. [Class 7 (iii)] In an engine having an annular combustion chamber in the piston head a into which sprays of fuel are directed by an injector c in the cylinder head b, the walls of the combustion chamber are formed with ridges e which cause an eddying of the air currents tending to keep the fuel sprays from contacting with the walls. The surfaces f leading to the ridges may be straight as shown on the left of Fig. 2, or curved as shown on the right. Instead of converging upwardly as shown, the outer wall of the combustion chamber may be vertical or diverging. Specification 522,313 is referred to.
