Abstract

723,972. Two-stroke direct-ignition engines. GUTBROD MOTORENBAU GES. May 22, 1951 [May 22, 1950], No. 11906/51. Class 7 (3). In a two-stroke cycle engine having an exhaust port 10 in one side of the cylinder and radially directed scavenge ports 9 adjacent and level with the exhaust port and through which the scavenging air flows across the cylinder without obstruction and then upwardly away from the piston, one or more fuel injection nozzles is or are provided on the opposite side of the cylinder level with the scavenge ports and arranged to direct a fuel jet or jets towards the scavenge ports and into the scavenging air entering the cylinder through the ports. The figures show various arrangements of fuel injectors these injectors being indicated by the ref. numbers 2 to 7. In all cases the injectors are arranged to project the fuel towards the scavenging ports 9. In some cases it may be advantageous to provide an additional fuel nozzle to direct a jet of fuel towards a sparking plug.
