Class 7(3) In a spark ignition fuel injection engine having a combustion chamber 12 in the piston, the compression ratio is in the range 10:1 to 14:1 and the fuel is injected in one or more jets 20 from an injector 13 near the combustion chamber axis 11, the jets being deflected by the rotating air charge so as not to reach the cylinder or combustion chamber walls.
