Abstract
768,520. Direct-injection engines. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. April 19, 1955 [April 21. 1954], No. 11294/55. Class 7 (3). A fuel injection engine is provided with a combustion space 1 bounded at the top by a surface 2 substantially perpendicular to the cylinder axis and extended axially beyond said surface and laterally of the circumferential wall of the cylinder by a chamber 4, at least part of the fuel jet from a nozzle 7 being sprayed against the chamber wall 8 which is inclined so that the fuel is reflected towards a sparking plug 6 in the chamber. The fuel is injected during the suction stroke in the form of a cone the lower portion of which is directed towards the inlet valve 3 arranged in the surface 2, the exhaust valve 5 being arranged in the chamber 4. The wall 8 is inclined at a small angle # to the vertical and the spark plug 6 is arranged in or near the plane containing the cylinder and injection nozzle axes.
