Abstract

1,217,624. Direct injection engines. FFSA. April 2, 1968 [April 7, 1967], No. 15893/68. Heading F1B. In a direct-injection engine having inlet and exhaust valves with axes lying in a plane through the cylinder axis and converging towards the piston, the combustion chamber is formed by a recess 17 in the piston crown and the axes of a multi-hole injector 15 lies in a second plane at right angles to the first. The cylinder head wall may be hemispherical or frusto-conical and the injector 15 may be situated on the cylinder axis or offset therefrom and inclined.
