Abstract
984,265. Combustion chambers for I.C. engines. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Aug. 2, 1963 [Aug. 7, 1962], No. 30773/63. Heading F1B. In a direct injector engine with a combustion chamber 11 in the piston, ignition is assisted by small plates 22 secured to the cylinder head, the fuel jets being injected from a central position towards the upstream side of the plates so that a portion of each jet is swept by the swirling air against each plate. The plates 22, preferably of chromium-nickel steel alloy, are integral with a plate 16 secured in a recess in the cylinder head with an invilating air-gap 15 thereabove.
