In a pre-combustion chamber having a hemispherical portion formed in a cylindrical member 5, a portion 6a with its centre line Y displaced from that of the member 5, and a shoulder 10 at the junction of the two portions, an auxiliary communicating passage 6c permits fuel collecting on the shoulder 10 to escape to the chamber portion 6a or to the main cylinder combustion space. A separate cylindrical member 7 may be situated between the portions 5, 6, and the outer end of the member 5 is formed with a resilient lip 8 against which the end of the fuel nozzle bears.
