Abstract
1292284 IC engine combustion chambers DAIMLER-BENZ A G 24 Oct 1969 [25 Oct 1968] 52244/69 Heading F1B In an I.C. engine with a symmetrical circular cross-section recess 3 in the piston 1 and fuel injection nozzle 2, providing at least two fuel jets 9 and 10, and projecting downwardly into the recess adjacent its edge 13 when the piston is at T.D.C., the side wall 6a of the recess is tapered approximately conically or in a barrel-shape towards the recess bottom 5. Air entering the combustion chamber has a swirl and one of the fuel jets 9 is directed substantially in the direction of air swirl. The fuel jets 9 and 10 are directed into the recess 3, e.g. at an angle γ of 17 degrees to the cylinder transverse direction, and strike the side wall 6a approximately perpendicularly, e. g. the tangents to the side wall at the areas of jet impact including an angle α of 35 degrees. The recess 3 may be provided with a cylindrical wall portion 8 joined to the side wall 6a by an annular shoulder 7. A glow plug 11 projects into the recess 3 at piston T.D.C.
