Abstract
793,084. Combustion chambers. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. April 30, 1956 [May 2, 1955], No. 13208/56. Class 7(3) The combustion chamber of a fuel injection engine is formed by two or more curved troughs 17, 18, which become deeper along their axes from their shallow portions 17b, 18b, to their hemispherical end portions 17a, 18a, in which the air rotates, the fuel being injected on to downwardly sloping portions of the walls of the chambers. The cylinder head is provided with a pair of inlet and exhaust valves 14, 15, and the fuel jets 19, 20, are injected at about 45 degrees to the cylinder axis so as to impinge on the chamber walls at a small angle and spread out thereon at a and b, being subsequently entrained in the rotating air.
