Abstract

870,255. Fuel injection engines. HANOMAG A.G. July 25, 1957, No. 23542/57. Class 7(3). In a reverse-loop scavenged two-stroke engine with a precombustion chamber 7, Fig. 1, containing the fuel injector 9 and spark plug 10, of a volume sufficient to contain the volume of mixture necessary to meet idling requirements, the main fuel jet is directed through the precombustion chamber throat 8 into the rising scavenging air and an abutment in the precombustion chamber retains a portion of the injected fuel for forming an ignitable mixture near the spark plug. In Fig. 1 an inner part of the jet sprays through the neck 8 while an outer part sprays on to the inner wall of the neck 8 forming the abutment. The nozzle may alternatively be a multi-jet nozzle with a central bore to form the main jet and secondary bores directed towards the abutment. In Fig. 2 the spark plug is situated in a pocket below which is formed an abutment 14 on to which a secondary jet 13 is directed. As the amount of fuel injected is reduced, the proportion sprayed through the jet 13 increases.
