779,104. Direct injection engines. AKT.-GES. FUR UNTERNEHMUNGEN DER EISENUND STAHLINDUSTRIE. Aug. 11, 1955 [Aug. 12, 1954], No. 23183/55. Class 7 (3). In a two-stroke engine with piston-controlled inlet and exhaust ports 3, 4, by which an air eddy 11 is produced in the combustion space on compression, a multi-orifice injection nozzle 6 in the cylinder head is either actuated on the cylinder axis and arranged to discharge more fuel at the side thereof impinged upon by the. air eddy than at the opposite side or is provided with equal-sized injection orifices and is displaced laterally from the cylinder axis in a direction against the current of air flow past the nozzle. In Figs. 1 and 2 the jet 8 directed against the air current is larger than the jet 9 directed with the flow, the two jets 10 being of an intermediate size. Each jet 8, 9, 10, may be replaced by a pair of jets inclined at 45 degrees. Alternatively the nozzle may have eight orifices arranged in pairs, the pairs replacing the jets 8, 10, being spaced apart 40 degrees whilst those replacing the jet 9 are 80 degrees apart. In a modification, Fig. 3, the nozzle 6 has four equal orifices but is displaced from the cylinder axis in a direction against the current of air flowing past the nozzle.
