Abstract

1353288 Fuel injection two-stroke I C engines ATELIERS DE LA MOTOBECANE 4 Oct 1972 [19 Oct 1971] 45782/72 Heading F1B A two-stroke engine has two transfer passages symmetrically disposed with respect to a diametral plane of the cylinder, which plane passes through the centre of the exhaust port and from which passages the flows converge towards a first point on a first generation of the cylinder diametrically opposite to that through the centre of the exhaust port; and an auxiliary transfer passage of smaller section than the normal passages and situated opposite the exhaust port and directing its flow towards a second point substantially opposite the first generatrix, the auxiliary passage containing the head of the fuel injector, the axis of which passes through the second point. The two transfer ports Tn are shaped so as to direct a flow of air, from the crank-case, towards a point P on the cylinder wall opposite the centre of the exhaust port E. Vertically beneath this point is an auxiliary duct Ti which also receives air from the crank-case and which contains a fuel injector I which directs fuel towards a point p which is opposite the point P. Since the air-flows As are established before injection begins, the fuel and the flow of air Ap from the duct Ti are deflected by the air-flows As in a loop towards the top of the combustion chamber. The flows As assist in scavenging the cylinder by pushing the exhaust gases out through the port E. Air reaches the duct Ti via a port L cut through the piston. Air enters the crank-case through two supply ports situated one on either side of, and slightly below the auxiliary duct Ti. In a modification the duct Ti is an inverted U- shape and a single supply port is arranged within the arms of the U. Alternatively both the supply port and the duct Ti may each have a single opening into the cylinder.
