Cylinders, combustion chambers of and arrangement of igniters in. - In a cylinder having inlet and exhaust valves S, S<1> on oppostte sides, the piston approaches the cylinder head with minimum mechanical clearance so that two combustion chambers A, A<1> are formed, each having a sparking plug B. If the invention is applied to an existing engine by replacing the piston, the danger of detonation, due to too great an increase in the compression ratio, may be obviated by throttling the induction passage. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a reference to Specification 287,489. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
