Abstract

Cylinders, combustion chambers of, and arrangement of ports and igniters, and guiding charge, in.-The combustion chamber is constituted by a domed cavity 6 over the exhaust valve 3, the sparking plug 10 being arranged so that the flame travels over the exhaust valve towards the piston. The inlet valve 4 may be arranged beside the valve 3 and the cavity may then extend over both valves or over the exhaust valve alone as shown in transverse section in Fig. 4. Alternatively the inlet valve may be located on the opposite side of the cylinder, or overhead and inclined, to produce a greater clearance space towards the cavity 6. The depth and width of the cavity decrease gradually from the valve 3 towards the piston. Several inlet and exhaust valves may be employed, a sparking plug being associated with each exhaust valve.
