Abstract
287,258. Elliott, A. G. Jan. 1, 1927. Cylinders, combustion chambers of and arrangement of igniters in.-To produce turbulence in an overhead valve engine, the head has one or more flat projections d<1>, normal to the axis, and extending over at least one-sixth of the bore of the cylinder. The piston face is also normal to the cylinder axis, and approaches the proejetion d<1> with minimum mechanical clearance so that the combustion chamber has the form of an elliptical dome as shown in cross-section in Fig. 3; two sparking plugs g are provided. The projections d<1> may be longer so that a crosssection of the combustion chamber corresponding to that of Fig. 1 is of horse-shoe shape; in either case the combustion chamber may be eccentric to the cylinder and arranged so that one of its side walls is in alignment with the cylinder wall.
