Abstract
510,255. Lubricating internal-scmbustion engines. TARPEN ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and CARLING, F. R. Jan. 29, 1938, No. 2894. [Class 12 (iii)] In an internalcombustion engine, e.g., of the petroil type, the crank case is provided at the base with an oil collecting sump 1 having an overhanging lip 3 extending in a direction opposed to the motion of the crank so that oil is forced by air pressure from the sump up through a channel 5 and through a timed valve formed as a slot 6 in the crankshaft to a groove 10 in the shaft bush leading to a reservoir chamber 11. The case 2, including the lubricating system, is in two parts symmetrical about the crank, a packing washer between also projecting into and partitioning the sump 1.
