404,593. Force-feed lubricating. SKARLUND, C. A., 124, Sveavõgen, Stockholm. Oct. 23, 1933, No. 29358. Convention date, Oct. 26, 1932. [Classes 12 (ii) and 12 (iii).] In an internal-combustion engine with a vertical crank-shaft 12, oil collects in a collector 20 above the lower main bearing 19 and is forced upon compression in the crank case 17 through a pipe 21 to the upper bearing 18. The bearing 18 and intermediate bearing 15 have annular grooves 23, 29, respectively, the shaft 12 has ducts 25, 30, and the connecting- rod bearings have axial and radial grooves 26, 27, 32, 31, respectively ; so that the suction and compression pressures in the crank chambers 16, 17, force the oil from the bearing 18 through the connecting rod bearings 8, 9 and the intermediate bearing 15 back to the lower crank casing 17. A non-return valve 24 and a filter may be fitted in the pipe 21. In a modification for a single cylinder engine with a big end roller bearing, oil from the upper bearing 18 drops into an annular recess in the crankshaft and thence through a passage into the roller bearing.
