Abstract

Force-feed lubricating.-In engines, pumps, and the like wherein pressure fluctuations are produced in the crank chamber, the movement of existing parts of the engine &c. is utilized to give positive control to the action of the pressure fluctuations in order to produce a substantially unidirectional circulation of lubricant from the crank chamber sump through the parts of the engine to be lubricated. The invention is described in connection with a two-stroke internalcombustion engine. Oil is forced from the sump L through a pipe K to a chamber J during the period of pressure in the crank chamber. During the period of suction in the crank chamber, the chamber J is put in communication with the hollow crankshait C, which is open to the crankchamber, through a hole H, a groove F in the bush G, and a hole E in the shaft. From the hollow shaft, the oil may pass through a hole N to lubricate the crank pin. In the application to a four-stroke engine, the position of the hole E is varied.
