[Class 7 (ii)] A combustion chamber of a side-valve engine has a flat roof 9 and is bounded by a straight wall 8, transverse thereto, which forms a baffle across the top of the cylinder bore. The sparking - plug socket 13 is arranged at the centre of the chamber symmetrically with reference to the valves 11. The clearance space over the piston at 12 is 5 per cent of the capacity of the chamber.
