Abstract

485,897. Oil engines. SCHWALLER, R. A. July 9, 1937, No. 19105. Convention date, July 18, 1936. [Class 7 (iii)] In an engine in which fuel is injected into an auxiliary cylinder 2 and ignited and forced into the main cylinder 1 by a piston 15, the auxiliary cylinder communicates with the main cylinders through two passages 3, 17 the latter of which is closed by inward movement of the piston. The piston remains at the end of its delivery stroke until the end of the exhaust period. The auxiliary chamber may be parallel to the main cylinder, or as shown, it may be formed in the cylinder head and open into an ante-chamber 20 containing an atomiser 19 past which the burning fuel is forced into the main cylinder.
