Abstract

298,399. Bruhn, J., and Mowag Motorwagenges. Nov. 26, 1927. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.- In an engine, working by self ignition, liquid fuel is fed by an engine-driven pump past a non- return valve 25 to a chamber 22, whence it is injected into the cylinder, with air, through passages 17 in a spring-loaded valve 18 and tangential grooves 14 in an atomizing member 13. The passages 17 are formed in helical grooves, arranged transversely to the grooves 14, and communicate with the chamber 22 by passages 38 in the valve-head 36 which closes bores 30 leading to the combustion chamber. Further bores 29 lead to an annular space 21<a>, formed by a stepped piston 21 which is ball-jointed to the valve 18 and is made gas tight by packing rings as shown, and lifted against a spring 20, the pressure of which is adjustable, by the combined pressure of the fuel and air compressed in the cylinder before the injection is to take place. Air is drawn into a chamber 24 past a non-return valve 35.
