Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In a Diesel engine part of the air in the cylinder is isolated in an annular space 4 and compressed through an axial passage 14, in the piston 3, against the fuel issuing from nozzle 7; the space 4 is formed by an extension 11 of the piston and the walls 2 of the combustion chamber and the air, compressed by the piston, first passes through radial passages 13.
